Wisconsin Football Lands Commitment From 2023 3-Star CB Jonas Duclona
Wisconsin football picks up its first commitment under new head coach Luke Fickell - 2023 three-star cornerback Jonas Duclona out of Florida.
Madison, Wis. - Wisconsin football was in the midst of an underwhelming 2023 recruiting class even before Paul Chryst got canned. Afterward, the school had several players de-commit, leaving the class in flux.
However, things have changed since UW hired Luke Fickell as the next head coach. He and his recruiting staff began working quickly to salvage this class and piece it back together - mixing the previous regime's recruits with a few of his own.
On Monday, after taking an official visit to Madison this past weekend, Luke Fickell received his first verbal commitment as the head coach of the Badgers in three-star cornerback Jonas Duclona out of Naples, Florida.
Per the 247Sports Composite, he's the No. 792 overall prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, the No. 79 CB in the country, and the No. 119 player in Florida.
Duclona previously de-committed from Cincinnati back in November and will now follow coach Fickell to UW. He also held offers from Cincinnati, Arkansas, Boston College, Coastal Carolina, Connecticut, Florida, Howard, Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Liberty, Louisville, Minnesota, Ole Miss, West Virginia, and several others.
The 6-foot, 175-pound CB, who will play in the Army All-American Bowl, registered 37 tackles, seven PBUs, four TFLs, two interceptions, and a fumble recovery as a senior at Naples High School.
Scouting report
In Duclona, Wisconsin football is getting a CB with good size (6-foot), change of direction, and noticeable straight-line speed. He's a talented three-sport athlete with an impressive vertical he uses to get up and disrupt/contest deep balls.
He didn't stand out as overly physical to me, but I could see him having a knack for finding the football in zone coverages or if he gives a cushion to read the quarterback's eyes and use his reactionary speed and make a play.

With some time in UW's strength and conditioning program, Duclona has an intriguing skill set that, if developed properly, could lead to him becoming a multi-year contributor for the Badgers.
The Impact of his addition to the 2023 recruiting class
Jonas Duclona is commitment No. 9 overall for the Wisconsin Badgers in the 2023 recruiting cycle. More importantly, he is the first scholarship player to give their pledge to UW under head coach Luke Fickell.
Duclona becomes the third cornerback commit for Wisconsin football in the 2023 recruiting class, joining Jace Arnold and AJ Tisdell.
