Wisconsin Badgers Land 2024 4-Star QB Mabrey Mettauer
Luke Fickell and the Wisconsin Badgers added a four-star quarterback out of The Woodlands, Texas, to their 2024 recruiting class.
Madison, Wis. -- Ever since UW hired Luke Fickell as head coach and brought in Phil Longo to implement his high-powered air-raid offense, the Wisconsin Badgers have quietly emerged as a destination school for some of the nation's top quarterbacks.
Only one week after adding former four-star Oklahoma QB Nick Evers from the transfer portal, UW received a present on Christmas Eve when 2024 four-star quarterback Mabrey Mettauer announced his verbal commitment to the University of Wisconsin.
Per the 247sports Composite, he is the No. 285 overall prospect in the 2024 recruiting class, the No. 21 QB in the country, and the No. 41 player in Texas.
The Woodlands High School standout chose UW over offers from Arizona State, Arkansas, Baylor, California, Cincinnati, Duke, Florida, Georgia Tech, Houston, Kansas, Louisville, LSU, Miami, North Carolina, Ole Miss, TCU, and several others.
"Wisconsin for a long time has been missing a strong quarterback. I feel like I'm that missing piece that can take them to the next level."
Mettauer, a target under UW's previous regime, became a more realistic option for the Badgers, with Luke Fickell becoming the next head coach. His prior relationships with coach Fickell and Guidugli, both of whom were at Cincinnati, and Phil Longo -- the old offensive coordinator at UNC (also made Mettauer's top 3) played an integral role in bringing him to Madison.
